About the author

I was born in Florence, Alabama, but grew up in the Pacific NW. I live in Clark County, Washington, an area directly north and across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon.

As a child, I was a dreamer. My family was not bedtime story people, so I would lie in bed at night telling myself bedtime stories, making up fanciful tales. So, transferring that experience to writing fiction was a natural step.

I’m also a songwriter, co-writing with songwriters around the world, including Grammy recipients; I weave one of my songs into each novel.

I served in the Fire Service for 38 years. After serving 23 years with Vancouver (WA) Fire Department, I accepted an offer to serve as Fire Chief in Redmond, Oregon, and subsequently served as Fire Chief for the City of Santa Cruz, CA.
People sometimes ask if books I’m writing are Fire Service related. My typical response is, “I’ve done that and loved it, but now I get to be an attorney, a serial killer, a nurse, a rock star, a hit woman, a henchman, etc.” I love it.

One of my passions is classic cars. You may see Sue—my wife—and me in our 1965 Malibu SS convertible, which I restored, at West Coast car events.

I hope you enjoy the journey, and that my imagination ignites yours.
